Hiram College has more than 70 registered student clubs and organizations, including academic societies, cultural centers, sports clubs, political action, and special interest groups. These clubs and organizations provide students with endless opportunities to experience new activities, ideas, and beliefs, develop public speaking and leadership skills, and to meet and interact with other students, faculty, staff, and community members who share a similar interest.
Academic
American Institue of Biological Sciences (AIBS)
The Hiram student chapter of the American Institue of Biological Sciences (AIBS) is an organization dedicated to advancing research and education in the biological sciences. The group not only puts you in contact with other Hiram biology students for studying, research opportunities, and internship questions, but also fosters growth through community outreach.
Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
The Hiram College undergraduate chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery is a club for technology enthusiasts and students with interest in computer science. Its activities include participation in the ACM Programming Contest, the regular sponsorship if computer games playable over Hiram's local area network (LAN) and the hosting of speakers of interest to the technology community.
Chemistry Club
Chemistry club is a group for anyone with interest and respect for the field of chemistry, regardless of major. Activities include bringing speakers to campus, internship workshops for those interested in chemistry research, preparing for graduate school in the physical sciences, and an annual mole day celebration every October 23. Everyone interested is encouraged to attend.
Education Club
The purpose of this organization is to promote the welfare and ongoing education of both children and adults, to coordinate and facilitate ongoing and one-time educational programs for Hiram Students, and to work cooperatively with other organizations on campus or at other colleges and universities to provide opportunities for conferences, speakers and community service in the area of education.
English Society
English Society is a club that meets once a week to discuss a variety of literature. Members choose a piece of literature to share with the club, and we also read a book a month and discuss it, among many other exciting activities including the Guy Faulkes dinner in conjunction with the History Club.
Fine Arts Society
The Fine Art Society is a student run organization at Hiram College devoted to the promotion, understanding, and enjoyment of the arts. It is open to all interested students regardless of major, or previous level of knowledge or involvement in the arts. Over the years the group has been involved in a diverse array of activities including: sponsoring trips to museums and special exhibitions, bringing guest speakers to campus, showing films, sponsoring the best college Halloween bash (come as a work of art), and planning the semi-annual art department weekend in New York. The level of funding and activity of the group is determined by the degree of participation and enthusiasm of its student members.
French Club
History Club
The History Club is open to all members of the Hiram community who enjoy history. Members meet regularly to watch historical movies and take field trips. The goals of the History Club include raising awareness of both the past and its influences on the present.
Interact
INTERACT is the official Communication club of Hiram College. The club provides Communication Majors and Minors with the opportunity to network among themselves, explore careers in the field of Communication, gain contact with Hiram Alumni currently employed in the field of Communication, and also to have fun exploring the many facets of the Communication program offered by Hiram College. Meetings, events and informational programs, speakers and recreational activities are sponsored by INTERACT periodically throughout the school year.
Investment Club
The Investment Club meets on a regular basis to manage a cash portfolio of approximately $50,000. Club members develop investment strategies and purchase and sell stocks as their strategies dictate. The Club is in competition throughout the country with other Investment Clubs. Additionally, the Club invites stockbrokers, money managers, investment bankers etc to speak to the club members on the happenings of the stock market and their career.
Music Society
The Music Society is a group of students who love all types of music. Most of these students wish to teach music in schools or perform as a career. This club is open to all students at Hiram. Most members become registered in the State organization, the Ohio Music Educators Association and the National organization, the Music Educators National Conference. The Music Society takes an annual trip to the state conference for 3-4 days. Here they attend workshops, listen to various performances, hear world renowned speakers, and shop the Great Music Exhibit.
Philosophy Forum
Hiram College Philosophy Forum is a small reading group whose goal is the exploration of philosophical texts. Meeting once a week, we cover approximately a book each semester at a level accessible to critical minds with or without previous philosophical experience.
Pre-Law Club
The purpose of this organization Pre-Law Club is to expand participation into the exploration of the legal system while trying to promote career opportunities for students interested in the law field. The program consists of events including but not limited to: mock trials, discussions with those in the profession, bringing in Law Schools to discuss their programs, taking groups to Law School open houses, legal based movie nights, preparing for LSATs together, and fellowship among those with a common interest. The Pre-Law Club is an organization which tries to fill the needs of the students thus it changes goals based on those involved that current year.
Psychology Club
The Psychology club is designed to open students up to the wide possibilities that exist within the field of psychology. Together, the members and department faculty explore career options, share experiences with each other, and attend off-campus events (such as conferences and lectures) to gain a better understanding of psychological research.
Religious Studies Symposium
The Religious Studies Symposium allows people of all faiths to meet and discuss religion in an open and frank environment. Affiliation with a religious organization is not necessary, and we encourage diversity and understanding. We sponsor several informative and entertaining events each semester.
Society of Physics
A branch of the national student organization, the Physics club welcomes physics students and friends alike. Dinners, speakers and conference trips are available events for members and meetings are open to all.
Sociology Club
The Sociology Club is a way for majors and non-majors alike to come together and discuss various sociological issues. We try to plan activities, volunteer work, guest speakers, and discussions to educate those interested in Sociology. It is also a great forum to talk to other majors about concerns or questions about what is involved in being a Sociology major and, eventually, being employed in the field.
Spanish Club
The Spanish Club of Hiram College exists for all members of the community to express and explore their love and interest of the modern and ancient Hispanic worlds. Students get together approximately every three weeks to hold conversations in Spanish, sample Spanish cuisine, and watch Spanish movies. Each year the group participates in one or two major events, such as holding a First Friday in Bowler, participating in the International Forum, or organizing a trip to see a Spanish play. All students are welcome at each event and advanced Spanish knowledge and skills are not required as the club also exists to inform others about the multicultural world in which we live. Musical
Chamber Orchestra
The Chamber Orchestra is primarily a string ensemble, incorporating winds and percussion on a limited basis. The ensemble rehearses twice weekly and performs one concert per semester. The orchestra performs diverse repertoire from all periods and styles.
College Choir
The Concert Choir is a choral ensemble for mixed voices, which performs both accompanied and unaccompanied music. This ensemble rehearses twice weekly during the twelve-week term and performs one concert on campus per semester, with occasional performances off-campus. Music of all styles, from Renaissance to Contemporary forms the repertoire of the choir.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is open to all Hiram students and may be taken for credit. It rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 until 5:30 and does not conflict with other college classes. It performs one concert each semester and plays for graduation at the end of the year. The repertoire consists of mature literature from numerous periods and styles. The Department of Music mainains an inventory of instruments available for student use in Concert Band, which includes oboes, bassooons, French horns, euphoniums, tubas and percussion equipment. Jazz Ensemble
In addition to performing various styles of big band charts, individual solo opportunities exist and time is allocated for developing individual improvisational skills.The Jazz Ensemble provides students with an energetic and enjoyable musical experience. The Jazz Ensemble is open to all Hiram College students and may be taken for credit. It performs one concert per sememster.
Madrigal Singers
The Hiram College Madrigal Singers is a select 16-member choral ensemble for mixed voices. Since 1969, this group has presented the annual Yuletide "Revels," which portray a festive holiday gathering during the Elizabethan Age. The group also performs vocal chamber music of all styles throughout the year. Auditions are held during the first week of classes in the fall semester.
Men's Chorus
The Men's Chorus is a college/community ensemble, mixing students, faculty, and members of the community-at-large. The ensemble specializes in TTBB music, and rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 8:00-9:30. The chorus performs one concert each semester, plus an outdoor spring pops concert. Participation is not limited to men.
Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop
The Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop is open by audition to all members of the Hiram campus. The ensemble performs fully-staged short operatic works and scenes from full-length operas, giving students a wide range of performance opportunities. All performances are sung in English. Recent productions have included works by Mozart, Verdi, Menotti, Bernstein, Gay and Gilbert and Sullivan
Pep Band
The Hiram College Pep Band is a band run by students. The Pep Band has two rehearsals a week and plays at Football and Men's and Women's Basketball games.
United Voices of Hiram Gospel Choir
A performance choir with particular musical emphasis on traditional and contemporary gospel music.
Political/Activism
Democratic Club
The Hiram College Democrats' Club provides a foothold into the political arena for students who have a passion for government as well as assisting capable candidates in their runs for local, state and national offices. We promote positive discussion and civil disagreement, progressive movements and middle class based economics, and the rights and liberties that make the United States the land of the free.
Model UN
A Model United Nations (MUN) is a conference that simulates several functions of various committees of the United Nations. The primary goal of many MUNs is to engage participants in current global issues by raising their awareness through forums and discussions.
Republican Club
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the education and understanding of one of the United States of America's longest standing political philosophies - conservatism and the Republican party most of all. The meetings are open to any Hiram student interested in learning more about conservatism and the GOP. This is not a brainwashing group. Active members in the Republican party will receive our support and information to guide them.
Right to Life (ALIVE)
ALIVE is a group dedicated to promoting respect for life from the moment of conception to that of natural death. Through educational activities, such as group discussions, collegiate conventions, and service projects, we hope to foster a greater prespect for pregnant women, their unborn children, and all of humanity.
Students Against Social Injustice (SASI)
Students Against Social Injustice is a student run organization that works with a variety of social causes. The group does everything from going to School of Americas protests, to raising money for charities such as the Heifer Project. SASI also makes lobbying trips to Washington, D.C. each year to speak out on a variety of issues.
Students for a Free Tibet
Students for a Free Tibet works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom and independence. We are a chapter of a worldwide network of young people and activists. Through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action, we campaign for Tibetans fundamental right to political freedom. Our role is to empower and train youth as leaders in the worldwide movement for social justice.

Advance
The
Advance is a student-run newspaper serving the Hiram College community.
The paper is written and produced by students biweekly twelve times a
school year. The functions of The Advance are to inform and entertain
the student body, faculty, staff, and Hiram community.
Spiderweb (Yearbook)
The Spider Web Yearbook is a small piece of Hiram's history, a permanent collection of photographs and memories that seek to preserve the traditions of the college throughout its pages. It serves as a medium of communication for its readers and exists to inform and entertain readers about the school and community. The Spider Web will strive to present news in an objective manner. As much as possible, the writer and photographer will be encouraged to research those views, policies, or actions that are being reported so those involved may express their opinions in an article. In all cases the yearbook staff will attempt to use fairness and impartiality in presenting ideas to its readers. No libelous, obscene or profane material or purposely disruptive statements shall appear in the book, nor will the yearbook endorse alcohol, cigarettes or illegal substances, or political endorsements. The Spider Web will not discriminate against any group, be it minority or otherwise, in the amount of coverage, staff, representation, etc. Paid opportunities for taking photographs, designing pages, and writing stories are available to all members of the campus community throughout the school year. All students are encouraged so submit photographs directly to the Editor(s)-in-Chief throughout the year.
WHRM
WHRM "The Worm" is one of the more popular, fully student-governed organizations on campus! We are a college radio station that broadcasts over the campus intranet and soon-to-be worldwide web! As a disc jockey for the station, you'll be more than a disc spinner on the largest stereo system in Hiram. You'll have the opportunity to learn hands-on how a radio station functions on the technical, managerial and marketing level. New this year, we'll be implementing divisions lead by the operations, continuity and music managers who will be teaching and supervising disc jockeys on the amazing art of radio broadcast. Also make sure to come to our sponsored concerts of local musicians guaranteed to spice up your weekends!
Religious
Disciple Student Fellowship (DSF)
A Christian student-run group affiliated with the Disciples of Christ church, but open to students of all denominations. Recognizing the founders of Hiram College, DSF tries to bridge the gap between the college and Hiram Christian Church by planning services, working with youth, and encouraging inter-generational relationships. Its members seek opportunities to support global ministries. DSF traditionally meets Sunday nights?for food, fun and fellowship.
Hiram Christian Outreach (HCO)
Hiram Christian Outreach (HCO) is an inter-denominational Christian fellowship group open to all students. Meeting are held weekly and include a time of Christian worship, Bible study, discussion, and planning of activities that focus on sharing Christianity through service and fellowship.
Interfaith Council
The Interfaith Council is a group of students who work with the chaplain to organize, plan, and implement programming in the Fisher All Faith Chapel and Meeting House. The group designs procedures for scheduling and managing the interfaith program and works on issues of shared space. It is broadly representative of the several traditions that share the facility. The Council currently has no elected officers, and is convened by the chaplain.
Islamic Society
Islamic Society of Hiram College welcomes any one interested in Islam to its ranks. The Society organizes Friday prayers, occasional visits to area mosques and open discussion forums.
Newman Club
The Hiram College Newman Club is the Catholic organization on campus. Members attend meetings twice a month and different events are planned such as discussions, guest speakers, masses, and other fun activities. The Newman Club is open to people of all denominations.
Social
Delta Chi Lambda
Delta Chi Lambda is an all female social club. Members of the club participate in, monthly meetings, social outings, and community service. As a group we also sponsor two open campus parties. The club is a great opportunity to make new friends and become involved on campus.
Kappa Sigma Pi
The Sigmas are Hiram's newest men's group, established in January 2004. The mission of Kappa Sigma Pi is to provide brotherhood, friendship, and camaraderie to any individual willing to uphold the laws that govern the Sigma organization. To uphold the traditions of success in academics, citizenship, leadership, scholarshp and philantrophy, and to give my best effort when facing adversity.
Lambda Lambda
Lambda Lambda is the male brother group to Delta Chi Lambda. The group has been in existence at Hiram for roughly 8 years. Lambda men represent a diverse group of Hiram men are looking to grow their group over the next few years with new and incoming students.
Phi Beta Gamma
Phi Beta Gamma is a unique local sorority that is made up of many different personalities. We do service events as well as co-sponser many parties with our brother club the Phi Gams. We hold weekly meetings, and have group get togethers as often as we can. "Individually unique, Together complete".
Phi Gamma Epsilon
There are no national fraternities or sororities at Hiram College, however there are local Greek Social Clubs. Phi Gamma Epsilon is the premiere male Greek club. The brotherhood of Phi Gamma Epsilon was established at Hiram College in 1929, and has remained strong in numbers over the past 75 years. Current main activities consist of the highly anticipated campus wide Toga Party, winter pledging for new members, the annual private Spaghetti Dinner, and the spring picnic at Nelson's Ledges.
Phi Kappa Chi
OKX is one of the three women's greek social clubs. It is a student run club which meets once to twice a month to hang out as well as plan activities for the coming months. Some of the activities include game nights, study breaks, bowling and going out. Rush for Phi Kappa Chi is in January after Christmas break.
Special Interest
African American Student Union (AASU)
A support group for students interested in the curricular and co-curricular issues, concerns, and interests of Hiram's African-American community.
Anime Club
The Anime Club is a group open to both students and professors that shows anime--a style of animation from Japan--series and movies on a weekly basis. Other events include Anime Music Video showings and trips to conventions.
Black Professional Organization (BPO)
The Black Professional Organization strives to adequately prepare the members of historically underrepresented identity groups for careers. This organization's main purpose is to foster a spirit of success and successful preparation for the minority community upon entry into the business world. This year, B.P.O seeks to open new doors to its members that will allow them the opportunity to test their aspirations and set their goals for college and the future.
B-Side
The B-side Cafe is a student operated, non-profit coffee shop serving the students of Hiram's campus Sunday through Thursday evenings during the school year. The B-side provides a relaxed atmosphere for students to study, play games, listen to music and talk to friends. Each semester the B-side holds open mic night and a poetry slam. These events provide an opportunity for Hiram students to share their talents with the community.
Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA)
Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA) is an affiliate of the National Middle School Association. It is designed to promote and support the professional development of middle level teacher candidates. Some activates are social, while others are designed to enhance professional development to provide middle level teacher candidates with a strong network of peers and the support of the national association to promote middle level education.
Free Information on Student Health (FISH)
F.I.S.H. (Free Information on Student Health) is a student group dedicated to educating their peers on various aspects of health and social issues. F.I.S.H. strives to provide students with accurate information so they can make better and more informed decisions regarding their personal health and behavior.
GAIA
Gaia is a club for students interested in women's issues and gender equality. Members participate in on-campus events to raise awareness as well as off-campus volunteer opportunities. Each year members either attend a performance of The Vagina Monologues, or stage the play at Hiram.
Hiram Volunteer Association (HVA)
The Hiram Volunteer Association works to bring various service opportunities to the campus community. Members receive email updates about upcoming opportunities from the Community Service Office. If interested, please visit the Community Service Office in the Kennedy Center.
Intercultural Forum
Intercultural Forum works towards promoting understanding and awareness amongst the culturally diverse students of Hiram. As the largest club on campus, we organize some of the biggest events, including the International Dinner and Talent Show, which provides students with an opportunity to interact with people from various backgrounds.
Kennedy Center Programming Board (KCPB)
The purpose of this organization is to plan, program and provide educational, social, cultural and recreational alternatives for the student body of Hiram College, along with the faculty, staff and community.
Medicus
Medicus is a group of students interested exploring the allied health field as a career and serves to promote the field of medicine in the Hiram community. It brings speakers to campus, and sponsors trips to hospitals, medical schools, and other programs in order to view first-hand the options associated with the health field.
Medieval Society
The Medieval Society explores both the historical period from 700-1500 CE, and
the fictional fantasy worlds inspired by this time period. Activities include
movie nights, readings, RPG gaming, and trips to local medieval faires and
Renaissance festivals.
Presence and Respect for Youth Sexual Minorities (PRYSM)
PRYSM (acronym for Presence and Respect for Youth Sexual Minorities) represents the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Trans, and Allied community on campus. They regularly do programming related to LGBT issues, including speakers and the annual Coming Out Day.
Resident Student Association (RSA)
Resident Student Association is a club which devotes it's time to issues programming in the Residence Halls. Some activities include Little Sibs Weekend, Cool Room Contest, and Kiddie Trick or Treating. RSA also works to provide leadership development opportunities and recognition through affiliation with NACURH- a network of RSA groups at other colleges and universities across the United States.
Stone Soup Vegetarian Coop
The Stone Soup Co-op is an alternate meal plan for vegetarains, vegans, and those with special dietary needs. Meateaters are welcome as well, though no meat is allowed in the co-op. Members are responsible for the entire operation including cooking and cleaning up from meals, and ordering the food. The co-op is located near Fenton lounge in Booth and Centennial hall.
Student Environmental Action Committee (SEAC)
The Student Environmental Action Committee is a group dedicated to preserving the environment on both local and global levels. This group is very open to ideas from members; past activities have included various recycling projects, lobbying, trips to environmental conferences, and local cleanup projects.
Students Lyrical Artistic Movement (SLAM)
Students Lyrical Artistic Movement is a Slam poetry club that focuses on providing students opportunities to share and work on performance poetry.? We particapate in poetry events, go see shows featuring Slam poets and bring Slam poets to campus as often as possible.
Theatre Guild
Among many activities such as Masquarades, NOIC (Northeastern Ohio Improv Competition), play excursions, etc., the Theatre Guild is probably most known for its Blitz Theatre--a 24-hour whirlwind of theatrical activity and performance. Our basic goal is to make theatre a part of the Hiram community as well as larger circles of people.
Sports and Recreation
Bowling Club
Bowling club is a club open to all levels of skill in bowling. We do a variety of events including midnight bowling and daytime bowling. We also have friendly tournaments within the club throughout the year.
Club Volleyball
An intramural sport organization with an average of twenty student and staff participants. We have two practices a week in the evenings. While attending three to four tournaments at universities across the northeastern states. All skill levels are encouraged to attend practices. Most important to our yearly activities is an end of the year Alumni tournament. Our alumni consists of graduates (we consider family) as far back as eight years, which attend without fail every year.
Dance Team
High Steppers
A performance dance group that incorporates modern, contemporary, and creative dance. The Hiram High Steppers usually offer performances at half-time of intercollegiate sports contests.
Ice Skating Club
The purpose of this organization is to encourage and promote participation in and education about the sport of ice-skating.
Men's Rugby Football Union
Rugby is a mix of soccer and american football. It is a sport played with 15 people on a field 100 meters long. It is a sport that builds teamwork and companionship between the players and captains.
Outdoors Club
The Outdoors Club gives students the opportunity to satisfy the outdoors-recreation thirst that many of us have. Some of the clubs activities include camping, skiing in Vermont, and hiking in the outdoors of the Southern United States. This club is open to everyone. The club is maintained and run by president Noah Phillips.
Scuba Club
The Scuba Club is for students interested in cuba diving and/or snorkeling. We organize a week-long diving trip for every spring break. Anyone is welcome in Scuba club, whether you like diving, snorkeling, or just vacationing by the water.
Water Polo
Hiram College Water Polo is a club team that is in its beginnings. After the second year, we hope to continue building our team over the next years with positive attitudes and hard work. While learning the basics, we plan to focus on having a good time.
Women's Rugby
The Women's Rugby Team is a group of girls who get together, laugh, practice, laugh some more, practice, and then go to dinner together and laugh some more. We play against a wide variety of teams across Ohio and enjoy meeting other ruggers at the Rugby parties which follow the games.
