Biochemistry

At Hiram College, the biochemistry major is a structured academic program that ensures students develop a sequential and coherent understanding of the principles essential for success in this field. Students begin their undergraduate studies by focusing on fundamental concepts in the basic sciences and mathematics.

The program also cultivates in students a comprehensive, working knowledge of the laboratory tools used by biochemists in professional research environments. Hiram’s biochemistry major places students in the lab doing hands-on research beginning with introductory level courses. Students are also encouraged to pursue internship experiences in an area of personal academic interest.

Biochemistry students can also benefit from the Center for Literature, Medicine and Biomedical Humanities, which integrates the humanities with health care and offers the only undergraduate major in biomedical humanities in the nation.

The comprehensive program at Hiram provides students with the knowledge and training to pursue careers and graduate work in a range of scientific fields such as animal science, biotechnology, biomedical engineering and medicine.
