Economics

A student majoring in economics has an opportunity to concentrate major electives in areas such as economic development, environmental policy and management, accounting, finance, public administration, public policy, international economics, international management, marketing and organizational change.

One of the newest additions to Hiram's programs of study is the entrepreneurship minor, which is designed to enable any interested student to create an entrepreneurial focus that complements and enhances their chosen major.

Along with this, students learn to identify and understand ethical issues within their majors and in general with the Center for the Study of Ethics & Values.

We strongly encourage our students to expand their perspective of economic theories by studying abroad. Department faculty have lead trips to England, Europe, Turkey, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Japan. Experiences closer to home are provided through internships and our active and award-winning investment club.

Recent economics graduates have gone on to graduate programs in economics, finance, urban planning, hospital administration, law and business administration. New alumni have earned positions with the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Environmental Protection Agency, and many other organizations.
